2/22/2018, N Scottsdale Road, near McDowell. Why this took over three weeks to make the news is very weird!? The assailant escaped after jumping into a black 1995 to 1996 black Nissan 200SX, with a 2nd suspect already in the vehicle. Police have so far not located the suspect or vehicle.
This will be a non-traffic statistic (because not a collision with a “motor vehicle in transport”)
As an aside, the news-guy just couldn’t help himself... despite this being described very explicitly by Scottsdale Police as a deliberate act, he starts his story with “this is an accident involving a person on a bike; a fatal accident…”
According to a statement released by Kevin Watts of Scottsdale Police, Bryan Blair, 58, was riding a bike north at around the 1200 block of N. Scottsdale Road at around 6:15 p.m. on February 22 when an unidentified man deliberate stuck a long metal object into the front spokes of Blair’s bike, as he traveled past.
The bike, according to police, stopped instantly, which threw Blair over the bike and onto the street. The suspect then got into a car with a second person inside, and fled the scene. Blair was then taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and died on March 14.
The car is described as a 1995 to 1996 black Nissan 200SX, and the suspect, who also drove the car, is described as a white man, 30 to 45 years old, with a shaved head, and wearing a black shirt and brown boots…
A male suspect, identified as Daniel Hinton, 49, was arrested and booked into jail in August on one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. Man arrested for death of bicyclist in Scottsdale
Police have thusfar been tight-lipped as reported by KTAR “They received tips identifying Hinton as a possible suspect and used surveillance videos, witness testimony and other evidence to place him at the scene, the release said….No information about whether the incident was random or if the suspect knew the victim was provided.”
The defendant, 49 y.o. Daniel Hinton has a list of various troubles with the law around Arizona preceding this incident.
- CR-2018142587 Maricopa County Superior Court
13-1103A1 (F2) MANSLAUGHTER-RECKLESS
- CR-2018142587 case minutes
The first minute refers to plan that I would guess indicates mental illness(?) “IT IS ORDERED directing the clerk to file and seal the Continuity of Care Plan, not to be opened without prior court order”
The second minute dated 9/14/2018 is an arraignment where the defendant plead not guilty to all charges.
