In last week’s (8/30/2019 afternoon) serious crash a pedestrian crossing Broadway was hospitalized after being struck by a driver. Victim-blamers will joyfully point out that the crash occurred “near Hardy Drive outside of the crosswalk”. Jaywalker! Worse yet, the driver — the “other victim” here — is being persecuted for being suspected of DUI. — Driver arrested for DUI after hitting pedestrian in Tempe
Moving on to yesterday’s (9/5/2019 ) serious injury collision at Southern and 48th Street; 2 girls hit in crosswalk following chain-reaction crash in Tempe, police say One driver, for unexplained reasons, smashed into the rear end of another vehicle stopped at the crosswalk; striking it with such force propelling it ahead and injuring the girls. “Police say the 10-year-old was pushing the 3-year-old in a stroller when they were hit. The rest of their family was a little behind them and not injured” abc15. Victim-blamers don’t know what to do with this one.
Expect this one to be quietly written off as a mistaken brake-accelerator; and nothing to do with obviously dangerous drivers hurtling around on high-speed streets with heavy weapons.
48th street there is the dividing line between the cities of Tempe and Phoenix; since Tempe police investigated, the crash presumably was on the east side)
Tempe is, at least, trying to move forward with vision zero; meanwhile across the street in Phoenix, (well, some) elected officials insist that re-paving and pothole filling are all that is required to fix traffic safety problems. (“If you want to save lives, fix the potholes and pave the dangerous roads” — Sal DiCiccio)
Wow. You seem to unusually hyperbolic in this post. “… hurtling around on high-speed streets with heavy weapons.” So cars are now designed with for the purpose of inflicting harm? Really?
Jay — regarding the unusually high level of hyperbolity, I say … guilty as charged!
It seems level-headedness isn’t working
