3/27/2021 (?) (time?) occurred at a crosswalk NEAR of 24th and Thomas, that is a signalized intersection. Interesting choice of language police say the bicyclist was in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, “but it is unknown if the crosswalk was activated“.
I was wrong about it being at the intersection, now the “activated” term makes sense: the crash happened at the crosswalk at the western canal crossing of 24th Street,(the street views are presently out of date, showing construction which has since been competed) which has some sort of bike/ped signal that is activated by pushing a button; see comment below.
It suggested but the news article doesn’t say, that it is a right-angle crash; in other words, it was stated the motorcyclist was northbound, I inferred they’re suggesting the bicyclist was traveling either east or west.
The bicyclist who was killed was later identified in a later news report as Jay Knauss. The 17 y.o. motorcyclist remains hospitalized in critical condition.
1 dead, 1 injured after motorcycle, bicycle collide in Phoenix
… Authorities say a 17-year-old was traveling northbound on a motorcycle near 24th Street and Thomas Road when he struck a 59-year-old man on a bicycle… Officials say the bicyclist was in the crosswalk when the [a-word redacted] occurred, but it is unknown if the crosswalk was activated… Speed of the motorcycle may be a factor, according to Phoenix police.

See list of Arizona bicyclist traffic fatalities.
I drove past shortly after and it appeared both were hit by a northbound vehicle while heading west across the canal cross walk. They both had a lot of belongings attached to their bikes that was spread out over a 50 yard area so the vehicle must have been traveling at a very high speed. I wasn’t able to discern if the responsible driver had stopped on scene.
Thanks for the clarification, now that word activation makes more sense, refers to the HAWK signal.
Police still say, though, there were only two units involved, the bicyclist and the motorcyclist;
