23-year Phoenix police veteran dead after being struck during crash investigation
A Phoenix police officer died Thursday after being struck at a crash near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road.
The officer, who was identified as Paul Rutherford, was struck while police were investigating a crash that happened just before 8:30 a.m., according to Phoenix Police Department.
While investigating the collision, Rutherford responded to another priority radio call across the street, police said. As he was crossing Indian School Road on foot, he was struck by a 2015 Ford Expedition, police said….
