Oh yeah, this one:
A woman accused of driving her SUV about 90 mph before colliding with a car stopped at a red light in east Mesa, killing both occupants, was arrested on Monday. Mesa police booked Ingrid I. Morataya, 35, on suspicion of manslaughter and other charges after she was discharged from a Valley hospital…. The driver and the passenger in the car struck by Morataya’s Toyota FJ Cruiser — Guadalupe Madril, 37, and Jason Aguilera, 33 — died instantly of massive injuries from the violent collision, according to court records… azcentral.com
It’s easy to see why these sorts violent crashes make the news (not unlike the three freeway head-ons that killed 7 a couple of weeks ago)…. but it leads me to wonder about the other traffic deaths.
In 2012, there were 825 traffic fatalities in total in Arizona, 227 of those were said to have involved a drunk driver — and that includes drunk drivers who managed to kill themselves. So, 72% of fatalities don’t involve any drunk drivers… I can’t quantify the media bias, but it seems blatant. Everyone loves clearcut villain, and a DUI driver who kills somebody certainly fits that bill.
