Gilbert hit and run; bicyclist dead

3/21/2016 ~ 8pm Bicyclist struck going northbound in the intersection of Queen Creek Road and Ranch House Parkway, Gilbert, AZ

The bicyclist was identified as 28 year-old  Erik Alsaker.

The driver fled the scene. Police are looking for a dark colored, small SUV or sedan w/ heavy front-end passenger side damage.

GILBERT, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) -…Police said Erik Alsaker, 28, was riding a bike northbound in the intersection of Queen Creek Road and Ranch House Parkway at approximately 8 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a vehicle.
…Police are looking for a small SUV or dark-colored sedan with possible damage to the front end and windshield. The vehicle was last seen traveling west on Queen Creek Road.

Arrest

Wed March 23: Gilbert police have arrested Yongela Nelvik Ward, 22,  in connection with Monday evening’s fatal incident. The arrest was made due to a neighbor’s tip; police obtained a search warrant and found a vehicle consistent with the crash in garage..

Defendant accepted a plea deal 3/22/2017.

Plead guilty to fatal hit-and-run, a class 3 felony. Sentencing still pending.
