Phoenix police are for whatever reason keeping the name of the driver a secret. This was 6 months ago; why no follow up? was anyone ever charged? good luck finding out because PPD won’t say.
This is way out there; I would have thought this was Scottsdale, but it’s city of Phoenix. The underage (for alcohol) driver is suspected of excessive speed and impairment; he may or may hot have been arrested(?). (Police normally release the name of someone who’s been arrested; investigation is ongoing in either case; whatever, not having the name of the suspect makes it difficult to look up outcomes. See this one for a driver who was arrested but name was never released; I had to dig it up by buying the police report)(orthisone.Whyasecret?)
According to police according to the driver’s statement, he was “momentarily distracted by the radio”. Hmmm, momentary.
This is a two-lane arterial road with a separated median; and a paved shoulder. The driver’s statement hints that he was driving in Lane 1 and struck the bicyclist (implying there, in lane 1), bicyclists aren’t required to use shoulders, but most would be in this scenario; here is a representative look at the Cave Creek Road in the area of the crash… I will tag it as “drifted” until we know more (possibly not until FARS comes out 2 years from now)
Phoenix police media advisory (drivers name a secret) ” ongoing investigation” what’s the outcome 6 months later?

PHOENIX – A 37-year-old bicyclist is dead after Phoenix Police say an alleged impaired speeding driver crashed into him in Phoenix late Monday night.
The Aug. 12 crash happened near Cave Creek Road and Dynamite Boulevard around 11:35 p.m.
“Preliminary information suggests that the GMC Terrain SUV, operated by an 18-year-old male was southbound on Cave Creek Road in the number 1 lane when his attention was momentarily focused on his radio and when he looked up he saw Unit 2 Michael Hutchinson in front of him and he could not stop and collided with the bicyclist,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Mayra Reeson.
The victim died at the scene. He’s identified as Michael Hutchinson, 37.
The driver, who wasn’t identified, stayed at the scene. Police say impairment and speed are believed to be factors in this crash.
Justice needs to be served ! Its been 9 months nothing my children myself and all of my family are suffering. This man needs held accountable.
Michael Hutchison was my Dad. He was the most smartest and caring person. The guy that hit him may not be getting charged for anything. He murdered my father. Took the life of a man who had so much going for him in life. Something needs to be done! My dad needs justice!
