Hit-Run on pro cycling training ride in Tucson

[UPDATED 1/14/2014: according to tucsonvelo.com the driver was sentenced to 7 days in county on an apparent plea-deal that drops most of the charges. There is a civil suit working in Pima County court]

This one is so weird, i don’t want to lose track of it…. It’s been almost 7 months, what’s the deal? From tucsonvelo.com:

“One cyclist with the Jamis-Hagnes Berman cycling team was sent to the hospital and several others were injured during an assault by a Tucson motorist on Friday ( ~ 2/22/2013 ) morning around 11 a.m., according to a team rider … A Pima County Court record search identifies the (suspect) as Rodney Owen Kinkade Jr., 57. The court record lists it as an assault occurring on Friday and matches the crime map case number”

Tuscon Velo notes a Pima County Consolidated Justice Court / Tucson JP criminal docket CR13-302819A ; not sure what that would represent, though, a justice court can’t handle an agg assault, or a felony hit and run.

The Criminal Case

As noted above, on 1/14/2014: according to tucsonvelo.com the driver was sentenced to 7 days in county on an apparent plea-deal that drops most of the charges. I can’t seem to find ANY documents for the criminal case on Pima County Court’s site. (?)

A Pima sheriff’s jail search on 1/14/2014 shows KINKADE, RODNEY OWEN DOB: 02/04/1956, LOCATION: JAIL-PIMA-MSF -5 BOOKING#: 140111010 CHARGES: 2 COURT: SUPERIOR COURT CASE#: CR20131115001. But that case number doesn’t seem to lead anywhere; i.e. no online court records.

The Civil Case

Pima County Superior Court’s PublicDocs search page; case C20131827 shows plaintiffs TODD HERRIOTT, and TYLER WREN; defendant  RODNEY OWEN KINKADE JR. The court calendar search is currently showing a trial scheduled for June 17-19, 2014.
