Arizona Legislative Immunity, yes again

The drama about the legislative session is that legislators finally produced a budget, and that was signed by the governor, thus averting a state government shutdown.

Now that the legislative session is over, we can ask/ponder a bunch of questions regarding Legislative Immunity (scroll down to the original article for references): Continue reading “Arizona Legislative Immunity, yes again”

AZ Lawmaker arrested: susp of ext dui

He came to the attention of police when “a state trooper spotted him driving with his right-side wheels on the shoulder of the road“.
People, this is the drifting behavior so often exhibited by drunk or distracted drivers that so often kills or injures bicyclists during so-called “motorist overtaking” errors.

Arizona Rep Mosley Brags on Video about speeding

Lake Havasu City Republican state representative Paul Mosley…  Not much to say about this knucklehead doing 97 in a 55mph zone except that there is nothing to stop the County Attorney from charging him with at least criminal speeding (La Paz referred it to Cochise).

§28-701.02. Excessive speeds; classification
A. A person shall not… Exceed eighty-five miles per hour in other locations.

Legislative Immunity from DUI?

Arizona Senate majority (Republican) leader, Scott Bundgaard got into a dustup involving a fight with his girlfriend on the side of the road, a gun, and drinking and driving. This occurred on February 25, 2011; on their way home from some sort of charity function.

Over the period of time between then and March 24th he claimed repeatedly that the police report will reveal that, among other things, that he did not seek legislative immunity, and that he was “stone cold sober”… “The final police report, released Thursday, largely contradicts his story”. Senate GOP unsure about Sen. Scott Bundgaard’s story, future

There are loads of salacious details and questions but I am mainly concerned with the drinking/driving aspect, and how legislative immunity works. Continue reading “Legislative Immunity from DUI?”

Photo unit snaps GOP party chief speeding 109 mph

This is just too wild to not comment on. Never a dull moment here in Arizona with respect to photo enforcement! Two weeks ago the world’s first photo radar murder and now we have a politician (he’s not a legislator, he works for the party) *arrested* for criminal speeding and reckless driving.

How will this play with the County Attorney’s pronouncement (see Thomas says no to criminal speeding) that he will not prosecute any criminal case based solely on photo evidence? Continue reading “Photo unit snaps GOP party chief speeding 109 mph”
