Both drivers were killed when their full-sized SUVs collided head-on Saturday evening 11/23/2013 near 83rd Ave and Durango, Phoenix. The driver who crossed over the center line was fleeing the scene of another wreck. Lovely.
Drivers of 2 SUVs in fatal crash identified
PHOENIX — Police have identified the two drivers who were killed on Saturday evening when their SUVs collided in southwest Phoenix.
Francisco Carranza Sanchez, 50, and Miriam Gonzalez, 41, were killed after Sanchez crashed his 1999 Ford Expedition into Gonzalez’s 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe near 83rd Avenue and Durango Street, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.
Sanchez was speeding north on 83rd Avenue at about 6:40p.m. when he crossed over the center line near Pomo Street, north of Durango, and collided head-on with Gonzalez’s Tahoe, Thompson said.
Both drivers died at the scene.
Following the crash, another vehicle that was driving south on 83rd Avenue crashed into the two SUVs, he said.
The people inside did not sustain serious injuries.
Investigators discovered the Expedition had been involved in another crash just before the fatal collision and had fled the scene, Thompson said.
The details of that accident were not immediately available.
I wonder if the driver of the third vehicle was cited for tailgating or failure to control vehicle to avoid an “accident.”
