7/26/2022 ~ 830am. Fatal collision between an e-bicyclist and heavy truck, along E 22nd St near Pantano, Tucson. According to the police/news report the cyclist was headed westbound in the eastbound bike lane when he collided with a semi-truck emerging from a private drive.
Counter-flow besides being illegal is incredibly dangerous; as drivers emerging will either give just a cursory glance, or not even look in the other direction… Even though drivers (any “driver of a vehicle”) emerging are required to make a full stop before crossing into/over the sidewalk area, see 28-856 here, many do not.
This is near where 22nd st crosses over “the loop”, the e-cyclist was perhaps heading there?
As a reminder, operators of e-bikes do not “count” statically as bicyclists. (they are persontype “DRIVER”)
